DIY Danger Zone: Trim Those Trees and Bushes
We love a lush yard as much as anyone—but when those trees and bushes start creeping toward your home, it stops being landscaping and starts being a pest problem.
At Paragon Pest Control, one of the biggest obstacles we face during treatments isn’t the bugs—it’s the bushes.
🌿 Why Overgrown Vegetation is a Problem
Untrimmed trees, hedges, and shrubs create natural highways for pests like:
Odorous house ants
Spiders
Cockroaches
Rats and mice
Pests use tree limbs and branches to access your roofline, attic, and eaves—areas that are already tough to reach and often ignored by DIYers.
To make matters worse, overgrown landscaping traps moisture against your siding, encouraging mold, mildew, and even wood rot.
🚫 It Also Blocks Us from Treating Properly
Our techs need to treat around:
Eaves and upper siding
Windows and door frames
Foundation lines
When shrubs are pressed up against your home or limbs are brushing the roof, we can’t access these areas properly—and that limits how effective your treatment will be.
In some cases, we can’t safely treat the eaves at all until the vegetation is cut back.
✂️ What You Can Do
Here’s how to keep your yard pest-proof and technician-friendly:
Trim bushes at least 12–18 inches away from the siding
Remove or cut back any tree limbs touching the roof
Clear any vines or creeping plants off exterior walls
Keep flowerbeds free of leaf litter and mulch buildup
Bonus: your home will look better, dry faster after rain, and be easier to inspect in the future.
Let us handle the pests—you handle the pruning. Deal? 😄 If it’s been a while since your last service (or your shrubs are doing the most), let’s get your yard back on track.
