Friday FAQ: How Long Does Termite Treatment Last? What DFW Homeowners Should Know
To close out Termite Awareness Week, we're answering one of the questions we get asked most often after a termite inspection: how long does the treatment actually last, and what does the warranty really mean?
These are fair questions. Termite treatment is a meaningful investment, and homeowners deserve a clear answer rather than a vague reassurance. Here's an honest breakdown.
How Long the Product Lasts
The product used in a Trench and Treat service binds directly to the soil around your foundation. Once applied, it doesn't wash away quickly or break down under normal conditions. Under typical North Texas soil and weather conditions, the treated zone can remain effective for several years.
That said, the exact duration depends on a few factors: soil composition, moisture levels, and whether the barrier around the foundation stays undisturbed. This is why the warranty exists alongside the product itself rather than instead of it. The chemistry is long-lasting, but the warranty is what gives you a concrete commitment.
What the 5-Year Warranty Actually Covers
Paragon's Trench and Treat service comes with a five-year re-service warranty from the date of treatment. If subterranean termite activity returns within that five-year window, we come back and retreat the affected area at no additional charge.
A few things are worth understanding clearly. The warranty covers termite activity, not structural damage repair. If termites return and cause damage before you notice and call us, repairing that damage is a separate matter from retreatment. This is true of virtually every termite warranty in the industry, and we'd rather be upfront about it than leave it in the fine print.
The warranty also does not cover drywood termites or other wood-destroying insects. Trench and Treat is designed specifically for subterranean termites, which are by far the most common species in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
What Can Affect Your Coverage
The barrier around your foundation is only as good as its continuity. A few things can break it and affect your warranty coverage.
Major soil disturbance near the foundation is the most common one. Foundation repair, irrigation installation, significant landscaping, or any digging along the perimeter can disrupt the treated zone. If that happens, we assess how much linear footage was affected and work with you from there. Smaller disruptions are handled differently than larger ones, and we're always willing to have that conversation directly rather than leaving homeowners guessing.
Letting an outstanding balance go unpaid can also pause or void coverage, as can pausing a recurring service plan if that plan was part of extending your warranty term.
How to Extend Your Coverage Beyond Five Years
One of the less-known benefits of keeping an active recurring pest plan with Paragon is that it extends your termite warranty. For the duration of an active quarterly pest service plan, your termite warranty continues beyond the original five-year term. It's a meaningful benefit for homeowners who want long-term peace of mind without scheduling a separate annual termite service every year.
The 30-Day Follow-Up and Annual Inspections
Every Trench and Treat includes a 30-day follow-up inspection at no charge. We come back, check the treated zones, confirm that mud tubes are inactive, and spot-treat anything that needs attention. This visit is part of the service, not an add-on.
Beyond that, we recommend scheduling a termite inspection annually or every other year to confirm your barrier is still intact, especially if any soil work has been done near the foundation. Catching a gap in coverage early is much easier to address than finding out about it after activity has resumed.
Starting with a Free Inspection
If you've been following along this week and termite protection has been on your mind, the next step is straightforward. Our Trench and Treat service starts with a free termite inspection. We take a look at the property, check for signs of activity or existing damage, and give you an honest assessment before any treatment is discussed. No pressure, no obligation.
Give us a call or send us a text and we'll get you scheduled. That's a wrap on Termite Awareness Week from Paragon Pest Control.
