What Is Smoke Testing?
Smoke testing is an inspection method that uses controlled smoke to help reveal hidden leaks and openings.
During the test, smoke is introduced into the system and our team watches to see where it escapes. If smoke appears somewhere it should not, that can help us pinpoint an opening or problem area that might otherwise be difficult to locate.
For pest control, those hidden openings matter because they may also provide a pathway for pests or rodents to enter the property.
How Does Smoke Testing Help With Pest Problems?
Pests do not need much space to get inside. Openings associated with drains, plumbing areas, leaks, or other hidden parts of a structure can sometimes create access points that are difficult to identify from the surface.

For example, if American roaches repeatedly appear around a bathroom or another area connected to drains, smoke testing may help identify an opening that gives them access to the structure.
The same idea applies to rodents. If there is a hidden opening associated with part of the building's plumbing or another difficult-to-access area, smoke testing can give our technicians another way to investigate where that access may be occurring.
What Happens If We Find Something?
If our smoke test reveals a problem area, we show the customer what we found and explain what needs to be addressed.
If the issue requires plumbing repair, the customer may need to contact a licensed plumber to make the necessary repairs. In some cases, our team may be able to address very minor issues or pest-related entry points directly.
The goal of the smoke test is to help find the source of the problem, so you are not stuck repeatedly treating pest activity without understanding how it is getting there.
